It began in 1953 as the Tournament of Champions and has carried several sponsor-based names, including Mercedes-Benz Championship and Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Kapalua became the tournament's home in 1999. The Plantation Course is famous for dramatic elevation changes, broad ocean views and its unusual par-73 layout. It also has seven holes measuring more than 500 yards, a rare feature on the PGA Tour.
