Which payment-card network operates the Plus ATM network?

The story behind the answer

Visa operates the Plus ATM network.

Plus is an interbank network associated with Visa that allows participating cardholders to access cash through compatible ATMs, including when they are traveling outside their home banking network. The Plus logo identifies many ATMs and cards connected to the system.

An ATM transaction may involve several parties: the cardholder’s bank, the ATM owner, the network, and sometimes a foreign exchange provider. Fees and exchange rates are set by the relevant institutions and agreements, so using a Plus ATM does not guarantee that a withdrawal is free.

Plus is commonly discussed alongside Mastercard’s Cirrus network. They are separate networks, although many modern cards and ATMs support multiple brands. Network acceptance depends on the card, the issuing bank, and the country where the transaction occurs.
