Which Paris landmark is the focus of the city's famous New Year's Eve light projections?

The story behind the answer

The Arc de Triomphe is the Paris landmark often used for major New Year's Eve light projections and celebrations.

The monument stands at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, at the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle. Its large arch and elevated position make it a prominent surface for projected images and messages during national celebrations and New Year's events. Paris has also used fireworks and illumination around the Champs-Élysées, but the Arc de Triomphe is the key landmark in the well-known projection spectacle.

The monument was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 after the Battle of Austerlitz and completed in 1836, during the reign of King Louis Philippe. It honors those who fought for France, with the names of generals and battles carved into its surfaces. The Arc de Triomphe is not the Eiffel Tower, although both landmarks are often shown in coverage of Paris on New Year's Eve.
