Which Paris avenue housed Christian Dior’s couture house when it opened in 1946?

The story behind the answer

Christian Dior’s couture house opened at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris in 1946.

Dior established the company with financial support from textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac. The address became closely associated with the House of Dior and was the setting for the designer’s first couture presentation the following year.

The building at 30 Avenue Montaigne was more than a workplace: it contained the couture salons, workrooms and administrative spaces that supported Dior’s early collections. The address later became one of the best-known locations in French luxury fashion.

Avenue Montaigne is in Paris’s 8th arrondissement and is famous for haute couture and luxury boutiques. It should not be confused with nearby Rue Saint-Honoré, another major Paris shopping street with many fashion houses.
