Which paired Pokémon games were the first main-series installments released for a home game console?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! were the first main-series Pokémon games released for a home game console.

The paired role-playing games launched worldwide for Nintendo Switch on November 16, 2018. They are remakes of Pokémon Yellow, the 1998 Game Boy game that incorporated elements from the anime, including a partner Pikachu that follows the player. Let’s Go added Eevee as the partner in its companion version.

Although the Nintendo Switch is also a portable system, the games are classified as the first main-series installments for a home console because the Switch can connect to a television. Earlier main-series games appeared on handheld systems such as the Game Boy, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS.

The games also connect with Pokémon Go and use a simplified catching system inspired by the mobile game. Their setting is Kanto, and the central collectible roster focuses on the original 151 Pokémon, with later additions including Meltan and Melmetal.
