Which outdoor brand collaborated with Gucci on a 2020 collection?

The story behind the answer

The North Face collaborated with Gucci on a 2020 collection.

Announced in September 2020 and unveiled later that year, The North Face x Gucci combined Gucci’s maximalist fashion language with The North Face’s outdoor expertise. Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director at the time, drew on archival North Face designs from the 1970s while adding Gucci patterns, colors, and its green-red-green Web stripe.

The collection went far beyond ordinary clothing. It included puffer jackets, vests, jumpsuits, shirts, dresses, hiking boots, backpacks, sleeping bags, and even a tent. A campaign photographed and directed by Daniel Shea placed the collaboration in the Alps, emphasizing exploration, camping, and nostalgia for The North Face’s early outdoor identity.

The timing can cause confusion because the collection launched across markets around late December 2020 and early January 2021. It is nevertheless widely identified as a 2020 collaboration because the partnership was announced and revealed in 2020. It also helped connect luxury fashion with the growing gorpcore interest in technical outdoor clothing.
