Which original SNL cast member played Roseanne Roseannadanna?
Answer
Gilda Radner
Answer
Gilda Radner
Gilda Radner played Roseanne Roseannadanna on Saturday Night Live. Radner created the character as a brash, tactless consumer-affairs reporter who appeared most memorably on the Weekend Update segment during SNL’s early seasons.
Roseanne often received a question from a fictional viewer, Richard Feder of Fort Lee, New Jersey. Instead of giving a direct answer, she launched into a rambling and frequently disgusting personal story before concluding with her signature line, “It’s always something.” The character was based partly on Rose Ann Scamardella, a former WABC-TV news anchor.
Radner was one of SNL’s seven core original cast members and remained with the show from its 1975 debut until 1980. Roseanne Roseannadanna is sometimes confused with Emily Litella, another famous Radner creation; Emily was a meek, hard-of-hearing editorialist who usually ended her corrected rants with “Never mind.” Emma Stone later portrayed Roseanne in the 2015 SNL 40th Anniversary Special.
