Answer
United Nations
Answer
United Nations
The United Nations was founded in 1945 to promote international peace and cooperation.
The United Nations Charter was signed in San Francisco on 26 June 1945 and entered into force on 24 October 1945. The organization was created near the end of the Second World War, when governments sought a stronger system for preventing conflict than the earlier League of Nations had provided.
The UN’s founding members numbered 51. Its main organs include the General Assembly, the Security Council, the International Court of Justice, the Secretariat, the Economic and Social Council, and the Trusteeship Council. The organization’s headquarters are in New York City, although many UN bodies operate elsewhere.
The UN is not a world government and cannot automatically enforce every decision. Its work includes peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, refugee support, development programs, public health coordination, and international law. NATO is a military alliance founded in 1949, while the European Union is a later regional political and economic organization.
