Which organization awards the Nobel Peace Prize?
Answer
Norwegian Nobel Committee
Answer
Norwegian Nobel Committee
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awards the Nobel Peace Prize.
The committee is a five-member body appointed by Norway’s Parliament, the Storting, according to the terms of Alfred Nobel’s will. Nobel specified that the peace prize should be awarded by a committee elected by the Norwegian Parliament, while most of the other Nobel Prizes are awarded by Swedish institutions.
The committee announces the laureate in October, and the prize ceremony takes place in Oslo on 10 December, the anniversary of Nobel’s death. The peace prize recognizes work connected with peace, disarmament, human rights, or cooperation among nations, although the committee’s interpretation has changed across different eras.
The Swedish Academy awards the Literature Prize, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awards the Physics, Chemistry, and Economic Sciences prizes. Those institutions are therefore plausible alternatives, but they do not select the Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
