Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark released the 1991 single titled Pandora’s Box.
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, commonly abbreviated OMD, is an English electronic band formed in 1978 by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. The group’s song Pandora’s Box appeared during its later period and was issued as a single in 1991.
The song was inspired by silent-film star Louise Brooks, whose image and career had already become closely linked with the 1929 film Pandora’s Box. OMD’s use of the title therefore refers to cinema and Brooks as well as to the ancient myth.
This connection can cause confusion with songs by other artists that use the phrase Pandora’s Box. The OMD track is specifically associated with the band’s electronic-pop catalogue and with Brooks’s cultural legacy, not with a newly written retelling of Hesiod’s poem.
