Which Operation Downfall phase was planned to invade southern Kyushu in November 1945?

The story behind the answer

Operation Olympic was the planned November 1945 invasion of southern Kyushu.

Olympic formed the first stage of Operation Downfall, the proposed Allied invasion of Japan. The U.S. Sixth Army was expected to land at several points in southern Kyushu and capture territory suitable for airfields and staging areas.

Planning documents called for the operation to begin on November 1, 1945. Okinawa was intended to serve as a staging base, and the invasion fleet would have been exceptionally large. The operation was designed to prepare the way for Operation Coronet, which would have attacked the Kanto Plain near Tokyo in spring 1946.

Japan’s surrender made Olympic unnecessary. Its cancellation is one reason V-J Day is associated not only with the end of fighting but also with the abandonment of a planned invasion that Allied leaders expected to be extremely costly.
