Which Olympic lift has two phases called the clean and the jerk?

The story behind the answer

The Olympic lift with two phases called the clean and the jerk is the clean and jerk.

In the clean, the lifter pulls a barbell from the floor and catches it across the front of the shoulders in the rack position. In the jerk, the athlete dips at the knees, drives the bar upward, and catches it overhead with locked arms. The lift is complete when the athlete stands steadily with the bar under control.

The clean and jerk is one of the two events in modern Olympic weightlifting; the other is the snatch. The snatch moves the bar from the floor to overhead in one continuous motion, while the clean and jerk divides the movement into two distinct stages. That division allows athletes to lift very heavy weights, though the event still demands speed, balance, timing, and mobility.

A common mix-up is treating the clean as the whole lift. The clean is only the first phase; the overhead jerk must also be completed for a successful clean and jerk.
