Which of Riley's personality islands collapses first?
Answer
Goofball Island
Answer
Goofball Island
Goofball Island is the first of Riley’s personality islands to collapse.
The island represents Riley’s playful, silly side and is powered by a core memory connected with her goofiness. After Joy and Sadness become stranded outside Headquarters, the remaining emotions struggle to guide Riley through the upheaval caused by her family’s move to San Francisco.
When Riley stops responding playfully to her father, Goofball Island loses the quality it represents and crumbles into the Memory Dump. The collapse is an early sign that Riley’s personality is being destabilized, not simply that she is having one bad day.
The other original islands fall later as Riley becomes increasingly disconnected from her old life. Hockey Island collapses after she abandons the sport, Honesty Island falls after she steals her mother’s credit card, and Family Island disappears when she rejects her parents. Friendship Island is also among the original five, although it is omitted from the listed choices.
