Which Norse god is the son of Odin and the god of light?

The story behind the answer

The Norse god who is the son of Odin and is traditionally associated with light is Baldr.

Baldr, also spelled Balder or Baldur, is the son of Odin and the goddess Frigg. Norse sources portray him as exceptionally beautiful, gentle, wise, and beloved by the gods. His name has often been connected with brightness or shining, and older interpretations describe him as a light god, although modern scholars debate exactly how securely that title can be assigned to him.

Baldr’s most famous story concerns a dream of his death. Frigg obtained promises from nearly every thing in the world that it would not harm him, overlooking mistletoe as too insignificant to matter. Loki exploited that omission and guided the blind god Höðr into striking Baldr with mistletoe, killing him.

Baldr’s death becomes a major step toward Ragnarök. The gods’ attempt to recover him from Hel fails when one being refuses to mourn. After Ragnarök, however, Baldr is foretold to return and share the renewed world with Höðr. He is not the same figure as Höðr, Váli, or Víðarr, who are among the gods connected to his tragic story.
