Which Nintendo series features the fictional kingdom of Hyrule?

The story behind the answer

The Legend of Zelda series features the fictional kingdom of Hyrule.

Hyrule is the principal setting for many games in Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise. It is commonly associated with Link, the series’ heroic protagonist, and Princess Zelda, whose name gives the series its title. The kingdom’s geography, history, and political structure change between games and timelines.

The original The Legend of Zelda launched in Japan in 1986 for the Family Computer Disk System. It later reached North America on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. The game emphasized exploration, item discovery, open-ended dungeon progression, and a save feature that was unusual for its era.

Hyrule should not be confused with Termina, the parallel world in Majora’s Mask, or the Great Sea setting of The Wind Waker. Those games remain part of the Zelda series but focus on different versions of the broader fictional world.
