Which Nintendo handheld was the first in the family to include built-in cameras?
Answer
Nintendo DSi
Answer
Nintendo DSi
The Nintendo DSi was the first Nintendo handheld in the family to include built-in cameras.
Nintendo released the DSi in Japan in 2008, followed by other regions in 2009. It added two cameras to the Nintendo DS design: one on the outside of the system and another facing the player. Users could take photographs, apply simple effects, and use camera features in compatible software.
The Game Boy Camera was an important earlier Nintendo accessory, but it was a separate cartridge and camera unit rather than cameras built into the handheld itself. The later Nintendo 3DS expanded the idea with cameras capable of taking stereoscopic 3D photographs. The DSi also introduced downloadable software through the DSi Shop, improved audio functions, and removed the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot found on the original Nintendo DS and DS Lite.
