Which Nintendo game was the first to feature the character Kirby?

The story behind the answer

Kirby’s Dream Land was the first Nintendo game to feature Kirby.

HAL Laboratory developed the game for the Game Boy, and Nintendo published it in Japan in April 1992. The game introduced Kirby as a round, cheerful hero who protects Dream Land from King Dedede. Its simple controls and forgiving structure made it accessible to younger and newer players.

Kirby’s Dream Land predates Kirby’s ability to copy enemies’ powers. That signature mechanic was added in Kirby’s Adventure for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. In the original Game Boy game, Kirby could inhale enemies, swallow them, or spit them out as stars, but he did not normally gain their abilities.

The character’s final design became pink, although the Game Boy’s monochrome display could not show that color. Early development used a placeholder character known as “Popopo,” while Kirby was later chosen as the character’s name.
