Which Nintendo game introduced the Tanooki Suit power-up for Mario?
Answer
Super Mario Bros. 3
Answer
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros. 3 introduced the Tanooki Suit power-up for Mario.
Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. 3 in Japan in 1988, followed by North America in 1990 and Europe in 1991. The Tanooki Suit gave Mario the ability to fly briefly, float, and transform into an invulnerable statue. Its design drew on the Japanese tanuki, a folkloric animal associated with shapeshifting.
The suit is often confused with the similar Super Leaf power-up from Super Mario Bros. 3, which gives Mario a raccoon-like tail and flight but not the statue transformation. Super Mario Bros. 3 also introduced other major series elements, including the Koopalings, world maps, and themed areas such as the Water Land and Giant Land.
The game was one of the best-selling NES titles and helped establish Mario’s use of distinct, collectible suits and costumes in later games.
