Which Nintendo console was released in North America in 1985?
Answer
Nintendo Entertainment System
Answer
Nintendo Entertainment System
The Nintendo Entertainment System was released in North America in 1985.
Nintendo launched the system in Japan as the Family Computer, or Famicom, in 1983. For its North American release, the company redesigned the hardware and gave it a new name. The NES reached New York City in September 1985 and expanded across North America during 1986.
The launch helped revive the North American home-console market after the video game crash of 1983. Nintendo also introduced strict licensing rules, including the Official Nintendo Seal of Quality, to reassure buyers about software quality. The console’s gray, front-loading design became one of its most recognizable features.
The NES library included Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and many other influential games. A common mix-up is calling the original Japanese hardware the NES; in Japan, Nintendo sold it under the Famicom name.
