Which Nintendo console is associated with the Virtual Boy's red-and-black stereoscopic display?

The story behind the answer

The Virtual Boy is the Nintendo console associated with a red-and-black stereoscopic display.

Nintendo released the Virtual Boy in Japan and North America in 1995. It used a tabletop headset-style unit and stereoscopic visuals created with red light-emitting diodes and mirrors. The system attempted to give players a three-dimensional experience before modern head-mounted virtual-reality products became common.

Unlike a portable console, the Virtual Boy had to be placed on a stand and was not designed for comfortable handheld use. Its display showed red graphics on a black background, and the system's physical design made it difficult for some users to play for long periods.

The Virtual Boy had a short commercial life and is widely regarded as a sales failure. It is not the same as the Nintendo 3DS, whose later glasses-free 3D screen used a different technology and supported color graphics.
