Which Nintendo console introduced the Mii avatar system?

The story behind the answer

The Wii introduced Nintendo’s Mii avatar system.

Nintendo launched the Wii in 2006 with software that let players create personalized cartoon avatars called Miis. Users could adjust features such as hairstyles, facial shapes, clothing colors, and body proportions. Miis could then appear in games, menus, and social features across the system.

Wii Sports made Miis especially visible by placing them directly into activities such as tennis, bowling, baseball, golf, and boxing. This helped the Wii appeal to people who might not have considered themselves traditional video-game players. Miis were also used in titles including Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii.

The Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and later Nintendo platforms continued to support Miis, which can make the answer seem interchangeable. However, the Wii was the first Nintendo console to introduce the system. Mii is derived from the English word “me,” emphasizing the avatar’s personal role.
