Which Nintendo console hosted the Western release of Pokémon Stadium?
Answer
Nintendo 64
Answer
Nintendo 64
The Nintendo 64 hosted the Western release of Pokémon Stadium.
Nintendo released Pokémon Stadium in Japan in 1999 and in North America, Europe, and Australia in 2000. The game presented Pokémon battles in 3D, a major visual change from the sprite-based Game Boy games. It used the Nintendo 64’s capabilities for arenas, animations, and multiplayer battles.
The game connected with Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow through the Transfer Pak accessory. Players could use compatible Pokémon from their Game Boy cartridges in Stadium, as well as view, organize, trade, and battle with them. This connection made the console title part of the same collection-and-training experience.
A Japan-only predecessor, Pocket Monsters Stadium, had already appeared on Nintendo 64 in 1998. The Western Pokémon Stadium is therefore not the first Stadium-branded game released anywhere, but it was the first Stadium title released in Western regions. The distinction is a common source of timeline confusion.
