Which Nintendo 64 game was released first as Pocket Monsters Stadium in Japan?
Answer
Pokémon Stadium
Answer
Pokémon Stadium
Pokémon Stadium was first released in Japan as Pocket Monsters Stadium.
The game launched for Nintendo 64 on August 1, 1998. It brought Pokémon battles into 3D and allowed players to use selected Pokémon from the Game Boy games through the Transfer Pak bundled with the cartridge.
The Japanese release was more limited than the international Pokémon Stadium familiar to many players. Only 40 of the original 151 Pokémon were available for battle, and the title was released only in Japan. The internationally released Pokémon Stadium was based on a later, more complete version.
The game had originally been intended for the Nintendo 64DD, a disk-based peripheral, but development shifted to a standard cartridge. Its 3D animations and television-style battle presentation made it an important early console expansion of the Pokémon series.
