Which Nintendo 64 game lets players photograph Pokémon in natural habitats?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Snap is the Nintendo 64 game that lets players photograph Pokémon in natural habitats.

Released in 1999 in Japan and in 2000 elsewhere, Pokémon Snap places the player in the role of a photographer traveling through on-rails courses. Professor Oak evaluates the photographs, and players can improve their scores by capturing Pokémon at useful angles, in the center of the frame, or in unusual poses.

The game was distinctive because it focused on observing Pokémon rather than catching them through conventional battles. Items such as apples and Pester Balls could influence Pokémon behavior and reveal hidden interactions.

Pokémon Stadium is sometimes selected because it was also a Nintendo 64 Pokémon title, but Stadium centers on 3D battles. Pokémon Snap’s photography premise later inspired the Nintendo Switch sequel New Pokémon Snap, released in 2021.
