Which Nike technology uses cables to provide a foot-hugging fit?

The story behind the answer

Nike Flywire is the technology that uses cables to provide a foot-hugging fit.

Nike introduced Flywire in 2008. The system uses thin, strong strands integrated into the upper and positioned to help hold the foot in place during movement. Its design was inspired partly by suspension-bridge structures.

Flywire helped Nike reduce excess material in some shoe uppers while maintaining support. The cables typically work with the lacing system, tightening around the foot when the wearer secures the shoe.

Flywire is often confused with Flyknit. Flyknit is a knitted upper construction introduced later, while Flywire refers specifically to the support-cable system. Neither term describes Nike’s Air cushioning, which is a separate technology located in the midsole.
