Nike SB was created in 2002 for skateboarding footwear and apparel.
The SB initials stand for skateboarding. Nike had released some skate-oriented shoes before the dedicated division, but Nike SB gave the company a focused product line, athlete roster, and marketing program for the skateboarding community.
The Nike SB Dunk became one of the division’s best-known models. It adapted the Dunk basketball silhouette for skateboarding with features such as padded tongues and Zoom Air cushioning in selected versions.
Nike SB is separate from ACG, which stands for All Conditions Gear and focuses on outdoor products. It is also distinct from Jordan Brand, which operates around Michael Jordan’s basketball legacy and its own product ecosystem.
