Which NHL team's home arena is known as 'The Rock'?

The story behind the answer

The NHL team's home arena known as “The Rock” is the New Jersey Devils’ Prudential Center. The arena stands in downtown Newark, New Jersey, and has been the Devils’ home since the 2007–08 season.

“The Rock” is a nickname inspired by the Rock of Gibraltar, which also appears in the corporate logo of Prudential Financial. The insurance company purchased the arena’s naming rights in 2007, shortly before it opened. Its official name is Prudential Center, but Devils supporters, sports writers, and event promoters commonly use the shorter nickname.

The Devils previously played at the Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford from 1982 through 2007. Prudential Center opened on October 25, 2007, and the Devils played their first home game there on October 27 against the Ottawa Senators.

A common mix-up is confusing “The Rock” with an arena nickname from another New York-area team. The Rangers play at Madison Square Garden, while the Flyers play at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center and the Penguins at Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena.
