Which newspaper first published the Declaration of Independence tied to America250?

The story behind the answer

The Pennsylvania Evening Post first published the Declaration of Independence tied to America250.

The newspaper printed the document on July 6, 1776, two days after the Second Continental Congress approved its final wording. This publication helped spread the news beyond the delegates gathered in Philadelphia and made the independence announcement available to a wider public.

The first printed versions were broadsides produced by John Dunlap, a Philadelphia printer working for Congress. Roughly 200 Dunlap broadsides were made for distribution to colonial officials, military leaders, and communities. The newspaper publication was a separate step in circulating the text.

The Pennsylvania Evening Post should not be confused with the Pennsylvania Gazette, another influential Philadelphia newspaper associated with Benjamin Franklin. Nor should the first newspaper publication be confused with the first public readings, which took place on July 8 in Philadelphia, Trenton, and Easton.
