Which newspaper first published the Declaration of Independence, a founding document honored by America250?

The story behind the answer

The Pennsylvania Evening Post first published the Declaration of Independence on July 6, 1776, two days after Congress adopted it and centuries before America250 honored it.

The newspaper was printed in Philadelphia, where the Second Continental Congress was meeting at the Pennsylvania State House. The publication helped spread the new declaration beyond the congressional chamber and made its arguments available to a wider colonial audience.

This newspaper appearance should not be confused with the Dunlap broadsides. Printer John Dunlap produced roughly 200 broadside copies shortly after adoption for distribution throughout the colonies and to military leaders. The Pennsylvania Evening Post was a newspaper publication, while the broadsides were separately printed single-sheet copies.
