Which New York studio is the long-time home of Saturday Night Live?
Answer
Studio 8H
Answer
Studio 8H
Studio 8H is the long-time New York home of Saturday Night Live. It is located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan, inside the NBC Studios complex, where the program has been produced since its premiere in 1975.
The studio was originally built as a large radio studio and became famous before SNL for hosting Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra. By the 1970s, it was being used largely for network election coverage. Lorne Michaels was assigned the space when NBC developed the new live comedy series.
Studio 8H is not simply a television set: its size, control facilities, audience layout, and live-broadcast infrastructure are central to SNL's format. Studio 54 is a former Manhattan nightclub, while Studios 1A and 6B are associated with other NBC productions. SNL has occasionally used alternate facilities for specials or unusual broadcasts, but Studio 8H remains its signature home.
