Ghost Ranch is the New Mexico ranch closely associated with Georgia O'Keeffe's landscape paintings.
O'Keeffe first visited Ghost Ranch in 1934 and returned regularly, eventually maintaining a house there. The ranch's dramatic cliffs, mesas, and changing light gave her a powerful setting for paintings of the New Mexico landscape.
She described the area as a place where she could work undisturbed, and its scenery appears in numerous paintings from the 1930s onward. Ghost Ranch is about 60 miles north of Santa Fe and is now an education and retreat center operated by the Presbyterian Church.
Ghost Ranch and Abiquiú are related but not interchangeable answers. O'Keeffe lived and worked at both places; Ghost Ranch is the broader landscape setting, while Abiquiú became the location of her restored home and studio.
