Which national park protects much of Hinchinbrook Island beside the Great Barrier Reef?
Answer
Hinchinbrook Island National Park
Answer
Hinchinbrook Island National Park
Hinchinbrook Island National Park protects much of Hinchinbrook Island beside the Great Barrier Reef.
The national park covers the island’s largely undeveloped landscapes, including rainforest, mangroves, wetlands, beaches and mountain ranges. Its coastal position places it within the broader Great Barrier Reef region, where land and marine ecosystems are closely connected.
Hinchinbrook Island is accessed from the Queensland mainland and is known for the Thorsborne Trail, a multi-day walking route along its eastern side. Conservation rules help protect habitats and limit the impacts of visitors.
Daintree National Park is also in tropical Queensland but lies on the mainland farther north. Great Sandy National Park is in southeastern Queensland, so it is not the protected area on Hinchinbrook Island.
