Which national park is located near Hollister, California?
Answer
Pinnacles National Park
Answer
Pinnacles National Park
Pinnacles National Park is the national park located near Hollister, California.
The park lies in the Gabilan Range, east of the Salinas Valley, in San Benito and Monterey counties. Hollister is one of the principal nearby communities, and California State Route 25 provides access toward the park’s east entrance. The park is roughly 40 miles inland from the Pacific coast.
Pinnacles is known for dramatic rock spires, talus caves, narrow canyons, and hiking trails. Its formations are the eroded remains of the Neenach Volcano, whose rocks were moved northwest along the San Andreas Fault over millions of years. That geological connection is why the park’s landscape looks so unusual.
A common mix-up is confusing Pinnacles National Park with nearby Pacheco State Park, which is also associated with Hollister but is a California state park rather than a national park. Pinnacles became a national monument in 1908 and was redesignated a national park in 2013.
