Which NASA spacecraft mission studied Saturn’s moon Pandora during the 2000s?
Answer
Cassini–Huygens
Answer
Cassini–Huygens
The Cassini–Huygens mission studied Saturn’s moon Pandora during the 2000s.
Pandora is a small moon of Saturn discovered in 1980 through images from the Voyager 1 spacecraft. NASA’s Cassini orbiter later made observations of Pandora while surveying Saturn’s rings and moons. The European Space Agency’s Huygens probe was part of the same joint mission, although it descended to Saturn’s moon Titan rather than Pandora.
Pandora is an outer shepherd moon of Saturn’s narrow F ring. Its gravity helps influence the ring’s structure, working with the nearby moon Prometheus. Cassini images revealed Pandora as an irregular, heavily cratered body only a few dozen kilometers across.
Galileo studied Jupiter, Juno primarily investigated Jupiter, and New Horizons flew past Pluto and later Arrokoth. None of those missions was the Saturn mission associated with detailed observations of Pandora.
