Which NASA mission made the second crewed Moon landing in November 1969?

The story behind the answer

NASA’s Apollo 12 mission made the second crewed Moon landing in November 1969.

Apollo 12 launched on November 14, 1969, with astronauts Charles Conrad Jr., Richard Gordon, and Alan Bean. Conrad and Bean landed the Lunar Module Intrepid in the Oceanus Procellarum on November 19, while Gordon remained in lunar orbit aboard the command module Yankee Clipper.

The landing occurred only four months after Apollo 11 and demonstrated that lunar landings could be performed with greater precision. Apollo 12 touched down near the Surveyor 3 spacecraft, which had landed on the Moon in 1967. The astronauts inspected and photographed it and returned selected components to Earth.

Apollo 12 also deployed the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package, including instruments that transmitted scientific data after the astronauts left. A lightning strike shortly after launch briefly affected spacecraft systems, but the crew and mission continued successfully.
