Which NASA mission made the first crewed landing on the Moon?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 11 made the first crewed landing on the Moon.

NASA's Apollo 11 mission launched from Florida on July 16, 1969, and landed in the Moon's Sea of Tranquility on July 20. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin descended to the surface in the spacecraft Eagle, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module Columbia.

Armstrong became the first person to walk on the Moon, followed by Aldrin. The astronauts spent more than 21 hours on the lunar surface, conducted scientific work, deployed instruments, collected lunar samples, and planted an American flag. They returned to Earth on July 24, 1969, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.

Apollo 11 was the fifth crewed mission in NASA's Apollo program, but it was the first to achieve a lunar landing. Apollo 8 had already carried humans around the Moon in 1968, and Apollo 10 tested the landing approach without touching down. Apollo 12 completed the next crewed lunar landing later in 1969.
