Which NASA mission first landed humans on the Moon in July 1969?
Answer
Apollo 11
Answer
Apollo 11
Apollo 11 was the NASA mission that first landed humans on the Moon in July 1969.
Launched from Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 carried commander Neil Armstrong, lunar-module pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, and command-module pilot Michael Collins. The Saturn V rocket placed the crew on a course toward the Moon.
Armstrong and Aldrin landed the lunar module Eagle in the Sea of Tranquility on July 20. Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface first, followed by Aldrin, while Collins orbited overhead in Columbia. The astronauts collected rock and soil samples, photographed the surface, and deployed scientific instruments.
Apollo 8 had already carried humans around the Moon, but it did not land. Apollo 10 tested the landing approach without touching down. Apollo 12 made the second crewed lunar landing later in 1969, which is why Apollo 11 remains the mission associated with the first human footprints on another world.
