Which Narnia book was the first one published by C.S. Lewis?

The story behind the answer

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the first Narnia book published by C.S. Lewis.

It appeared in 1950 and introduces the Pevensie children, who enter Narnia through a wardrobe. They discover a land trapped in winter by the White Witch, while the return of Aslan signals the beginning of a major struggle.

Lewis later wrote six more Narnia books. The Magician’s Nephew is set earlier in Narnia’s fictional history, so it is often placed first in chronological reading lists. It was not, however, the first book released to readers.

The distinction between publication order and internal chronology explains many conflicting lists of the series. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe remains the best-known entry point and established the central characters, setting, and themes that shaped the later books.
