Which Narnia book by C.S. Lewis features a magical wardrobe?

The story behind the answer

The Narnia book by C.S. Lewis that features a magical wardrobe is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Published in 1950, it introduces the Pevensie siblings and their first journey into Narnia through a wardrobe in an old country house.

The four children are Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie. Lucy discovers the passage while exploring, and the wardrobe leads to a snowy land under the rule of the White Witch. The story’s famous setting includes the lamp-post in the forest, Mr. Tumnus, Aslan, and the long winter imposed on Narnia.

This was the first Narnia book published, although Lewis later wrote The Magician’s Nephew as a prequel explaining Narnia’s creation and the wardrobe’s earlier history. The title is sometimes shortened informally to “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” but the complete title includes the second “the.”

The novel won the Carnegie Medal in 1957, several years after publication. Its blend of portal fantasy and fairy-tale motifs helped make it Lewis’s most widely recognized children’s novel.
