Which museum curates the museum tent at the Oide Wiesn?

The Munich Stadtmuseum, also called the Munich City Museum, curated the museum tent at the Oide Wiesn. The Oide Wiesn, meaning “old fairground” in Bavarian, was created as a historical version of Oktoberfest and first appeared in 2010 for the festival’s 200th anniversary.

The museum tent complemented the Oide Wiesn’s historic rides, traditional food and specially brewed dark beer. Rather than presenting Oktoberfest only as a modern beer festival, it explored the festival’s development, showmen’s traditions and changing attractions. The Munich Stadtmuseum was a natural curator because its collections document Munich’s urban, cultural and social history.

The Oide Wiesn is sometimes mistaken for a regular Oktoberfest tent or confused with the Deutsches Museum, Bavarian National Museum or Lenbachhaus. Those institutions have important Munich or Bavarian collections, but the museum tent’s curatorial association was with the Munich Stadtmuseum. The historical area was located at the southern end of the Theresienwiese and became a recurring feature after its anniversary debut.
