Which Motown singer recorded the 1969 hit "My Cherie Amour"?

The story behind the answer

Which Motown singer recorded the 1969 hit "My Cherie Amour"? Stevie Wonder recorded it. The song became one of Wonder’s signature romantic pop-soul recordings and was released by Motown’s Tamla label.

The song began as an unfinished idea called "Oh, My Marsha," written by Wonder while he was a student at the Michigan School for the Blind. Motown songwriter-producer Henry Cosby and lyricist Sylvia Moy helped reshape it, with Moy supplying the distinctive French-influenced title. Although the recording was made in 1967 and 1968, Motown initially used it as the B-side of "I Don’t Know Why" in early 1969.

Radio DJs began playing the B-side, prompting Motown to reissue it as the main single. It climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also reached No. 4 on the US R&B chart. A common mix-up is confusing the performer with the songwriters: Wonder co-wrote the track with Cosby and Moy, while also singing and playing instruments on the recording.
