Ford introduced the factory-built roadster pickup as demand grew for a light-duty vehicle that was cheaper and simpler than the heavier Model TT truck. It combined the open, two-seat Model T roadster body with a compact pickup bed, making it useful for farmers, tradespeople, and small businesses.

The 1925 version was distinctive: its pickup bed was produced for only a short period and differed in construction from the beds used on the 1926 and 1927 models. In 1926, Ford restyled the Model T with a taller hood and revised bodywork, while the roadster pickup continued in the range. The 1927 model was among the final Model Ts built before Ford switched to the Model A.
