Which mobile game launched in July 2016 with GPS-based Pokémon catching?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Go launched in July 2016 with GPS-based Pokémon catching. Niantic developed the free-to-play mobile game in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, using location data and smartphone cameras to place creatures in real-world surroundings.

The initial rollout began on July 6, 2016, in Australia and New Zealand, followed by the United States and other markets. Players walked to discover Pokémon, visited PokéStops and battled at Gyms. The game used augmented-reality features, although the camera view could be turned off.

Pokémon Go became a global cultural event and drove large crowds into public spaces. It was built on Niantic's earlier location game Ingress, which supplied mapping and location-game expertise. Later updates added raids, trading, research tasks and Pokémon from additional generations, so the launch roster was much smaller than the modern collection.
