Which MLB pitcher threw a perfect game in the 2023 season?

Domingo Germán threw a perfect game for the New York Yankees during the 2023 MLB season. On June 28, 2023, Germán retired all 27 Oakland Athletics batters he faced in order during a 11–0 Yankees victory in Oakland. He struck out nine hitters and needed 99 pitches to complete the game.

The achievement was MLB’s 24th officially recognized perfect game and the first since Félix Hernández accomplished the feat for Seattle in 2012. It was also the fourth perfect game in Yankees history, following Don Larsen, David Wells, and David Cone. Germán became the first Dominican-born pitcher to throw an MLB perfect game.

A perfect game is stricter than a no-hitter: the pitcher must allow no hits, walks, hit batters, or reached-base errors, meaning every opponent is retired. Several famous pitchers, including Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole, have thrown no-hitters or come close, but neither recorded a perfect game in 2023. Germán’s performance remains the defining pitching achievement of that season.
