Which MLB pitcher is known as 'The Rocket'?

The story behind the answer

The MLB pitcher known as “The Rocket” is Roger Clemens.

Clemens earned the nickname through his explosive fastball, fierce competitiveness, and dominant performances on the mound. He debuted with the Boston Red Sox in 1984 and became one of the defining pitchers of his era. During a 24-season career, he also pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and Houston Astros.

Clemens won seven Cy Young Awards, the most ever by a major-league pitcher, and captured the award in both leagues. He was an 11-time All-Star, won two World Series championships, and finished with 354 victories and 4,672 strikeouts. He also twice struck out 20 batters in a nine-inning game, an MLB record shared only in the sense that he accomplished it more than once.

“The Rocket” is not a reference to a particular team. It follows Clemens throughout his career, including his Boston years and his later seasons with New York. Nolan Ryan, another famous hard-throwing pitcher, is a common mix-up, but Ryan was not known by this nickname.
