Federer won the Hopman Cup for Switzerland in 2001, 2018 and 2019. The event was a mixed-team competition in which one man and one woman represented each country in singles and mixed doubles.
In 2001, Federer partnered with Martina Hingis as Switzerland defeated the United States in the final. His later titles came with Belinda Bencic: the pair won the 2018 final against Germany and successfully defended the trophy against Germany again in 2019.
The Hopman Cup is easy to confuse with the Davis Cup, which is a men’s team event, or the Laver Cup, a Europe-versus-World competition. Switzerland’s four Hopman Cup titles overall also include 1992, before Federer’s three victories. The tournament was traditionally staged in Perth, Australia.
