Which mission first carried humans to the Moon?
Answer
Apollo 11
Answer
Apollo 11
Apollo 11 was the first mission to carry humans to the Moon.
NASA launched Apollo 11 from Florida on July 16, 1969. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin landed the lunar module Eagle in the Sea of Tranquillity on July 20, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module Columbia.
Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface, followed shortly by Aldrin. The astronauts collected rocks and soil, deployed scientific instruments, and spent about 21 hours on the surface before returning to Earth on July 24, 1969.
Apollo 8 had already carried humans around the Moon in 1968, but it did not land. Apollo 10 tested the lunar landing procedures in May 1969 and approached the surface without touching down. Apollo 11 therefore marks the first crewed lunar landing, not merely the first human voyage into lunar orbit.
