Which Milky Way supernova remnant contains the Crab Pulsar?

The story behind the answer

The Crab Nebula is the Milky Way supernova remnant that contains the Crab Pulsar. The pulsar is a rapidly rotating neutron star at the nebula’s center, and its rotational energy powers much of the nebula’s striking radiation.

The remnant was created by SN 1054, a supernova observed by Chinese, Japanese, and other astronomers in AD 1054. The Crab Nebula lies about 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Taurus and is also known as Messier 1, or M1. Its expanding filaments are the debris from the exploded star.

The pulsar was discovered in 1968, shortly after pulsars themselves were first identified. Its roughly 33-millisecond rotation produces pulses across the electromagnetic spectrum. A common mix-up is to treat the Crab Pulsar and Crab Nebula as the same object: the pulsar is the neutron star, while the nebula is the much larger cloud of supernova debris and energized particles surrounding it.
