Which Mexican art school employed Frida Kahlo as a teacher in the 1940s?

The story behind the answer

La Esmeralda employed Frida Kahlo as a teacher in the 1940s.

Kahlo began teaching at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado, commonly called La Esmeralda, in Mexico City in 1943. Her students became known as Los Fridos and learned through close observation, outdoor painting, and attention to Mexican subjects.

Kahlo’s worsening health eventually made regular travel difficult, so she held lessons at Casa Azul. Her teaching therefore extended the role of her home as a working artistic environment and gathering place.

La Esmeralda was distinct from the National Preparatory School, which Kahlo attended as a teenager. It was also not the same as the San Carlos Academy, another important Mexican art institution associated with Rivera and earlier generations of artists.
