Which Metallica song was directed by Wayne Isham in its Black Album music video?

The story behind the answer

Wayne Isham directed Metallica's “Enter Sandman” music video. Filmed in Los Angeles in June 1991, it premiered on July 30, one day after the single’s release and shortly before the album’s arrival.

The video connects the song’s nightmare theme with images of a child dreaming. It includes disturbing dream scenarios, an elderly man played by R. G. Armstrong, and performance footage of Metallica. The visual style helped establish the song’s identity for viewers encountering the band through music television.

Isham directed six Metallica music videos in total, beginning with “Enter Sandman.” The clip won Best Hard Rock Video at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards and also received nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Editing.

The director is sometimes confused with Matt Mahurin, who made the video for “The Unforgiven,” or Adam Dubin, who directed “Nothing Else Matters.” Those videos have very different visual approaches and were released later in the Black Album campaign.
